The facilities of the Institute of Biotechnology are located in the city of Cuernavaca, Mor., About 65 km from Mexico City, in a land of 25,000 m2 that the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM) gave in loan to the University National Autonomous Government of Mexico (UNAM).
Its location has contributed to the formation of a pole of important scientific development and will allow a planned interaction with other dependencies of the (UNAM) that are located, or will do so in the future, in that place.
Likewise, the Institute should contribute to an effective deconcentration of research and higher education by locating solid groups with a broad academic future in other states.
We are working intensively on the generation of a university campus, which should strengthen and make efficient academic relations with the UAEM and other regional bodies, in order to fulfill our role as part of a university of a national nature.
The Institute of Biotechnology has, today, a physical plant of around 8,000 m2 of laboratories and equipment of common use with a value superior to 10 million dollars; In addition to this, each research group has equipment obtained through donations given to the group, and which constitute a resource of similar magnitude, mostly available to the rest of the community. This has been possible due to the strong support of the UNAM and of multiple public and private organizations, Mexican and foreign, who have believed in the capabilities and potential of our personnel.
